Apartment Hunting Near UTHSC and the Memphis Medical District

Start with your actual campus or work building, then compare layouts, lease dates and daily routines when choosing a Memphis apartment.

Searching for an apartment near UTHSC or Southern College of Optometry usually starts with a map. The better shortlist starts with your day: where you need to be, when you need to arrive and what you want to come home to.

Crescendo offers one- and two-bedroom apartments at 1386 Court Avenue in Midtown Memphis, near the Medical District. Our standard lease term is 12 months. Students, healthcare professionals and other prospective residents are welcome to ask about availability and the features of a particular home.

Give “near campus” an exact address

The Memphis Medical District sits between Downtown and Midtown and brings together medical and educational institutions with local neighborhoods and businesses. That is useful context, but it is not a single destination.

Use the UTHSC campus map to locate the buildings relevant to your program, job or rotation. The map identifies buildings, parking and accessible entrances. For Southern College of Optometry, the college's campus information distinguishes the tower, The Eye Center and other campus spaces.

Ask your program or supervisor where you will spend most of your time. Keep any other regular location on the list too. An apartment that suits one part of your week should be considered alongside the rest of it.

Test a routine, not just a distance

Compare the full trip from an apartment to the entrance you need. Look beyond the number displayed beside a map pin:

  • Where would you park at home and at your destination?
  • Does your expected arrival time change the journey?
  • If you cycle or walk, have you reviewed the actual route and crossings?
  • If you use transit, does the current service fit both directions of your schedule?

Visit at a representative time if you can. Do not treat a suggested travel time as a promise. Traffic, road work, campus access and the time spent finding parking can change the experience.

Find a layout that earns its space

A floor plan helps you compare homes, but your furniture supplies the real test. Measure your bed and desk, and think about how you would move between them. Identify a workable study area before assuming that an empty corner will do.

Ask to see closet storage and the kitchen's usable counter space. If you are considering a second bedroom, decide what purpose it needs to serve and confirm the actual layout. A representative interior photograph is useful inspiration, not a measured floor plan.

At Crescendo, finishes, laundry arrangements, internet options and other features vary by apartment. Bring your priorities to the conversation so our team can explain the home you are considering.

Make the calendar part of the decision

Confirm availability against your arrival date, then read the proposed lease term. A class schedule, clinical placement or work contract may not line up with a housing commitment.

Ask management about the application process, move-in arrangements and any questions about future plans before signing. Crescendo offers standard 12-month leases, with flexible terms for traveling nurses based on their assignment dates. Confirm the terms for your stay in writing; summer breaks, rotations or graduation do not automatically change an agreement.

For one resident’s perspective, read traveling nurse Isidro’s experience at Crescendo. Management can help you compare your own dates with current availability.

Compare the complete monthly cost

Request a clear breakdown of rent, recurring fees, utility arrangements and any optional services. Ask separately about deposits and other initial costs. Compare homes using the same categories so a difference in the advertised price does not hide a difference in what you will pay for.

You are welcome to ask our team about current student or local employee offers. Eligibility and terms must be confirmed; employment or enrollment alone does not establish a discount.

Leave space for ordinary life

Study and work matter. So do groceries, laundry and a place to take a breather. Add a few everyday stops to your map, then browse what is nearby. Your shortlist should help you picture a week, not only the first day of class.
